Back to Japan (Tuesday)

Image
And finally, after travelling about 10,000 km over 30 hours, we are back in Kochi! The trip was an amazing sucess. As a teacher, it was a real pleasure to spend time with such positive and highly-motivated students. I believe they all learned so much, about English, about New Zealand and the wider world, and also about themselves. Hopefully they also made friendships and connections that they will treasure for many years to come.

Goodbye New Zealand (Monday)

Image
Before going to the airport, students had one more chance to say goodbye to buddies...  ... before going for one final trip to Wellington. In Wellington, we visited the Parliament House (nicknamed the Beehive)... ... Mount Victoria for a beautiful view over Wellington city... ... and Oriental Bay Beach... ... then finally going to the airport and saying goodbye to New Zealand.

Weekend with Host Familes (Saturday & Sunday)

Image
On Saturday and Sunday, the students all had free time with their host familes. Some went back to Wellington, or had a trip to the beach, or a car museum, while others went bird watching or baked cookies or enjoyed a Sunday roast, or watched a sunset over the ocean.

Sayonara Party (Friday)

Image
Today was our last full day at Paraparaumu College, with the Farewell Party in the evening.  Before that we had our last ESOL class with Mr Harris in the morning. The students all tried making a mini pavlova. Then in the evening we had the Sayonara Party. First we all had some delicious fish’n chips for dinner, then the Tosa students all got on stage and danced the Soran-Bushi.  After that, the students did some calligraphy for their host families and buddies. Finally, each Tosa student got up on stage and gave a farewell speech. It was sad to say goodbye, and there were many tears, but everyone was able to do a great job!
