Day three at Paraparaumu: Powhili (Wednesday)

Today students followed a similar schedule with English class and then time with their buddies, but after lunch we were lucky enough to experience Powhili, a Māori welcome ceremony. As we entered the cultural room, the local students performed the haka, then speeches and formal greetings were exchanged. After that we shared food and watched the performance of a number of beautiful and powerful Māori songs and dances. It left a very strong impression!

After school we did some Soran-bushi dancing practice on the stage. We'll dance in front of our host-families and buddies on Friday evening at the farewell party.

Today’s kiwi watching group had amazing luck. They saw three kiwis and two owls!!
