First day at Paraparaumu College

We met back together in the morning at Paraparaumu College after our first night with home-stay families. Students spoke about delicious dinners, cold bedrooms (but warm beds), and how they were all starting to make at real connection with their host families.

The school day started with a tour of the huge college grounds, followed by the first special English class.

Then came the exciting moment when the students could meet their buddies and join them for lunch and for regular classes. Communication wasn’t always easy, but most students seemed to love the chance to interact with the local students, and enjoyed the challenge.

In the evening six students went kiwi watching at the local Nga Manu Nature Reserve. Unfortunately, despite waiting patiently in the cold for over an hour, all we saw was one shy kiwi’s beak. However, although the kiwis didn’t come out,  the stars did, and we were happy to see the Milky Way and the southern cross shining brightly across the sky.
